May Peace Be Upon You. Pictured above is a Bunian King in battle armor. This is Putera (Prince) Aria, the spouse of Puteri Sari, Lord of the Bunian Kings. The traditional view of Bunians being docile and timid have been challenged by this new, more dynamic image of the Bunian. Bentara Tujuh portrays them as powerful warriors, fully equipped with weapons and armor, ready to do battle with the iblis and infidel jin. Through his personal experience with these ethereal beings, Bentara relates that they never laugh, not even smile. They are very strict when it comes to their duty, and unlike the jin, the Bunian never kid around. They are practically the police of the netherworld, for without them, the iblis and the jin will become rampant.
This drawing was produced by Bentara with guidance from Puteri Nur and Putera Aria himself. It clearly shows the Bunian armor and weaponry, and also the Bunian's wings. Although the Bunian are not mentioned specifically in the Holy Quran, the first verse of Surah Al-Faatir clearly states that Angels were created with wings; two, three and four. I have been told that the bow fires arrows that home in on their targets, and the Bunian can file a volley of arrows from a single bow. Bunian weapons also have names, and if dropped, can be summoned back to its owner, just like Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.
Another interesting feature is the Bunian crown, which, unlike popular belief, cannot be taken off because it grows from the head, not unlike a deer's antlers. Even after death they cannot be obtained, for the Bunian fades out of existence, leaving nothing behind.
